Jack KerouacTHE ROAD OF KEROUAC
Garden Daile
Concert performancePremiere - 24th May, 2022
Duration - 1h 50min
The road – the symbol of movement that promises new adventures, is generous with beauty and the fulfilment of a dream or even dreams also symbolises freedom. It’s the magic of the road that lets us leave the everyday burdens behind for even memories are unnecessary baggage. On the road, you collect new emotions that will turn into memories, on the road you’re ready to discover the undiscovered both outside and within. On the road, you celebrate the life that freedom affords.
We’ll celebrate life at Daile’s Garden offering to come on the road and spend summer evenings together with the concert performance “The Road of Kerouac”.
Our road signs will be “the Bible” of the beat generation – the contracultural youth movement of the 1950s – Jack Kerouac’s “On the Road”. Published in 1957, it became a bestseller that stood for personal freedom, the search for meaning, and perseverance. It’s a journey fuelled by poetry, narcotics, and youth that salutes being itself because the trauma and fear left behind by the Second World War had brought with it the inescapable notion of death. Kerouac has said that he needed just three weeks to write the novel but seven years to live it. He’ll always stay 47 for in 1969 death concorded life and this year we mark the 100-year anniversary of Jack Kerouac.
The wind at our backs will be music and lyrics. Vocalist Aija Vītoliņa, actors Klāvs Kristaps Košins and Niklāvs Kurpnieks, musicians – Rūdolfs Dankfelds, Miķelis Putniņš, Romāns Vendiņš, Toms Poišs, Dāvis Jurka – will guide us through jazz motifs through classic compositions by Chet Baker and Ella Fitzgerald and to dive into music that continued the ideals of the Beat generation throughout the 20th century – songs by “The Doors”, Patti Smith, Jimmy Hendrix, Bob Dylan, and many others.
