When Frank finds out about his wife Alice’s desire for another man, his imagination drives him to obsession. Even if the sexual encounter was a fantasy, he is distraught and ventures out into the city, intent on engaging in infidelity of his own. A chance encounter sends him deeper into the night, where the line between dream and reality is blurred, and the distance between thought and action is much closer than he imagined. What started as a simple, ordinary conversation turns into a confession that threatens to tear two of the closest people apart…

When Schnitzler published “Dream Story” in 1926 it was a scandal, shaking the polite Viennese society with its portrayal of erotic desire and exploration of the subconscious. This new interpretation, a world premiere for The Dailes Theatre, was co-created by emerging British director Daniel Raggett and renowned playwright Simon Stephens (“The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time”) and brings together talent from Latvia, the United Kingdom, France, and Poland to dream up a fantasy that lifts the lid on the darkest desires that exist within us all.
