ABOUT
On the other side of the iron curtain, just a few blocks from Hollywood, a man of German descent taps away on his typewriter. A cigarette smolders in the corner of his mouth, and a glass of whiskey sits in front of him. In the morning, he’ll head to the post office, yet his colleagues haven’t even noticed he exists. His women leave before he wakes up. His hair is already gray, but he continues to write – without any hope for recognition.
About the bars where jealous men vie for women’s attention. About the loners who spit in the eyes of fate, even when faced with death. No one yet knows that this stranger, with his bohemian lifestyle and untroubled spirit, will captivate the crowds; his poetry readings will become "must-see" events, and Hollywood – unaware of him for now – will turn his scripts into blockbusters.
This is the story of Charles Bukowski, a writer who had the words "Don't try" etched on his tombstone. He knew that whether he lived or died, he would never be like most people – half-alive, burdened by bills and family gatherings. Charles Bukowski and "Binge" prompt us to consider: perhaps we try too hard in our lives and live too little.
The concert/play features the band "Uzvaras bulvāris".
