Small hall
Existential comedyTranslated from English by Kintija Rodžersa
Premiere - 27th September, 2023
Duration - 2h 30min
He was just a regular boy – his parents were neither particularly good, nor particularly bad. He was good with his friends and patient with enemies, and he fell in love with girls that didn’t always seem deserving. Nobody could have imagined what monstrous success awaits him.
His name is Gorge Mastromas, and he was destined to become one of the richest and most powerful men on earth. But what is it worth to acquire the entire world if it means losing your soul?
Mastromas frequently finds himself having to make life-changing decisions – and Gorge always does the right thing. Is it goodness or cowardice? Is he really a good guy or simply a coward who wants to appear good? What will Gorge do when faced with the most important decision/opportunity of his life?
Kelly’s play surprised the London critics – it is a text that is constantly asking us what motivates us to strive for success, and what we are willing to sacrifice in order to get what we want.
Dennis Kelly’s play originally titled “The Ritual Slaughter of Gorge Mastromas” premiered at the London’s Royal Court Theatre in 2013, in a production directed by Vicky Featherstone. It featured the renowned British actor Tom Brooke in the title role of Gorge (pronounced as "George”).
