“Hello, Sadness” is the first and possibly greatest novel by the French cult writer Françoise Sagan and was completed in just seven weeks. At the heart of the story is seventeen-year-old Cécile who spends her days lazing by the sea and sipping cocktails together with her decadent father and his lover. But everything changes when Cécile’s departed mother’s old friend Anne arrives intending to bring the family back to their senses and make her goddaughter an upright and virtuous person. Unfortunately, the young woman has other plans.
